Apparently, she favors the Barrett side of the family more, in case anyone was wondering.

I don't understand the question. "Who Edele? Why?" what?
I assume that means the new baby favors Michael.

When they say that she favours the Barrett side of the family they mean that she looks like the Barrett side of the family. Thats the context the phrase is generally used in.

Marvellous news. It doesn't matter that it's a girl - mother and baby being healthy is what counts.

It's the 7/07/07 thing that I find cool. 7 is a "lucky" number. Things are looking up for that little girl already. And she's Irish, which also makes it amusing. 7. Lucky. Irish. Get it?

I wonder what Edele thinks of all of this? I mean, she was the one who had the reputation for being the most superstitious.
