I went to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes tonight, and for a prequel it wasn't bad. The special effects weren't too showy or distracting, the plot was decent and there were subtle hints leading to "Planet of the Apes" which, yes,I know,it was supposed to,but where it differs from other prequels is that it wasn't in your face by that fact but also didn't stray too far from the original plot line. Even if you haven't seen the originals I think this is good enough on its own to see.
James Franco is a d*mn good actor,he's apparently meisner trained which is awesome, and it shows in his work. His reaction to the others around him was so natural and on point. Tom Felton also did really well in this for the minor role he played. Although he brought a lot of Draco Malfoy to the table hold the action and the magic. He might get stuck playing a-hole characters the rest of his career but at least he's good at it. Personally I'd like to see him grow from Draco Malfoy and his persona.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: 3.8 out of 5 ;D
