I've recently dug out my old B*witched albums and listened to them with a fresh ear. Back in the day I was not too impressed with Awake and Breathe when compared to B*witched, it just felt like that archetypal difficult second album. I didn't like the dropping of the Irish lilt in favour of more country sounds but listening to it again so many years later "I shall be there" stands head and shoulders above the other songs, I think its amazing, a beautifully written song both musically and lyrically and only augmented by the vocals of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Its risking becoming my favourite B*witched song ;D
Has anyone else listened to the songs again after many years to be surprised ?

Honestly it's still one of the tracks I'm likely to skip over, but I never really understood why I didn't like it that much.

I'm the same about Jump Down, Hayley. And a couple of others. Everyone has different tastes.

I shall be there was one of the only tracks I actually enjoyed, not that the others were bad or anything,I just felt disconnected from them compared to the songs on the first album. Jump Down I can get over easily, but I remember the one song I always skipped over was the superman one.

Awake and Breathe felt quite disjointed and I felt several of the songs didn't fit on it. The first album was almost perfect in blend, only Castles in the Air was the weak one for me. From the two (or is it three) leaked songs from the 3rd I'm not sure whether that would have been as good. Where will you go is a good song but somehow didn't "feel" like a B*witched song if you know what I mean. Blame it on the Weatherman and C'est la Vie were difficult songs to beat, not sure anything ever came that close IMHO of course

There was another that was used as a title track for a cartoon series, I think it was called something like Hold On, someone has put that on You Tube. Just looked again, I think it was just those two, so no third that I know about

Hold On was used in the Princess Diaries the song from a cartoon was the opening to the Sabrina the teenage witch cartoon...I hated that opening...with the burning passion of a thousand suns. I forgot about Hold on though, that was an epic song.

I think since we're older, some of our tastes have changed, some of the songs that we may have dismissed we might now decide we kind of like, or vice versa. 'Hold On' is the only decent song on the entire Princess Diaries soundtrack. Aside from B*witched, that album in it's entirety is like a plethora of one-hit-wonder teen pop. I like the African rhythm to I Shall Be There, but does anyone else notice that Boyzone, a band that also hails from Ireland, and also features a Lynch, also had a low-tempo song with an African beat? Does anyone else see a pattern here? ( ) My favorite off of Awake and Breathe was always, for some reason, 'Are You A Ghost?'. My least favorite is 'Jump Down', followed by 'The Shy One' (sorry, Keavy. I love you, I just don't like that song). I don't even remember the Superman song. There's a Superman song? I liked some of their B-sides better than some of the songs that made the albums. The animated Sabrina series was targeted towards children, so I'd imagine anyone who wasn't under the age of 12 would find that opening to be a little annoying.

My favorite from the album was "It was our day",absolutely love that song. I sang that at a funeral a few years back to someone I loved dearly, almost didn't make it through it at all. Crazy times. Ooh and initially I didn't like Someday, but it grew on me.

I never really listened to Hold On, maybe once or twice before, so I though I ought to revisit it ...... OMFG ! Annie what you said about it being an epic song, I have to agree 200% it is absolutely stunning, its actually blown me away and that doesn't usually happen. I take back what I said above about their subsequent songs not getting close to Blame it on the Weatherman and C'est la Vie, Hold On may actually have done that. I'd love to have seen what would have happened if this had been a single release - in one way I'm sad it was given over to a film soundtrack but how lucky are we that it was as this song would not have otherwise have surfaced and that would be tragic. I would actually go as far as using the word "anthemic", may be its the drum line that is very "We Will Rock You" but its huge song Do you get the feeling I might like the song a little bit ? lol
