CSE Dancer Naomi Lynch Tells Us About Her Recent Tour To Iraq...Read On...
After a lovely flight to Kuwait we were taken to Camp Behuring. After less than a few interesting hours of bunk bed creaking, snoring & general army stomping filled sleep we were whisked off to the helipad to find...no Helicopter??...Hmmm…it will be here shortly they say. So we head over to grab some coffee and after many delays go by it's not looking good for tonight's show. Eagerly awaiting news, the crew who have still yet to put the whole set up together on arrival are surprisingly calm (You gotta love em!). Wahoo, We're on our way. The Merlin swoops down to pick us up and to make up for it all they let us go ramp riding! Best seat in the house I say! Nothing like dangling out the back of one of those babies!!!
In record time the awesome crew, run by Charlie and with the help of a few Army friends actually pull it off & the CSE show gets into full swing!!!! With Paul Tonkinson and Terry Alderton being their usual hilarious selves, X Ray Lima rocking the place & of course us 3 twirlie girlies in true CSE fashion being rather raunchy! After a good gig and some grub we got all tucked up in our sleeping bags had the best sleep!
Over the following week our POC (Mammy of the bunch) Pat had some treats in store for us. We went to visit the boys and girls at the Dog Section, BFBS radio, The Warriors: Now those guys know how to put on a demonstration! They loaded Casey up with full kit and she had a race with one of the army boys….She totally kicked his butt!! It had nothing to do with the fact that me and Rachel were actually hanging on to the back of the poor fella trying to run! Hee hee .
We had a few pic's hanging off the Big Gun which we were told is not a tank!! (Although it does look like one). The lovely tanned guys down at the fire station (one of which looked like Right Said Fred) took us under their wing and let us race the fire engines down the runway. Pedal to the metal X ray Lima's Sen was rather peed off when fellow band mate and non driver James soared past with Casey flashing in the back seat!
It was time to leave the Cob and head to Baghdad, we sadly didn't get to say a proper goodbye to Ollie, Martin and Jamie who had been the best helpers ever!! But we do hope they enjoyed the Milkshake's, Love cup's and DVD we bought them, Thanks boys!!!
A bit of a mis-hap with the flights again only this time they were about 6 hours earlier than expected. We had all of about 20 minute's to pack up and get to the airport….X ray Lima's Greg fell out with his sleeping bag which I would have loved to witness!…bless, he got so frustrated he started punching it!! Tee hee
Landing in Baghdad we we're shown to our room, the RQM's room…ooohhhhh…special! After a few hours of not much to do Casey decided to ask all the boys watching the Premier League game if they would like to play hide & seek around the base….Hmmm…That went down like a lead balloon!! So instead, legend Charlie to the rescue again hooked up a big speaker & cranked up the tunes!!! We had a lovely evening of chit chat and getting to know the boys before tomorrow's show.
While in Baghdad we were taken out around the IZ (International zone). We saw the Cross swords, The tomb of the unknown solider, Camp Prosperity (trust the American's to turn a palace into a gym!), The two Saddam Heads waiting to be shipped to a museum in America, the hotel which the press filmed from during the war and had lunch at the NEC which is currently the biggest embassy in the world.
The show was great and to end the evening with nakedness (no not us girls!!) the guys from camp did a 12 man naked pyramid on stage for all to see and take pictures of!!! (thanks boys)
It was time to go but not before waving off the general & leaving the QM ‘H' a little birthday treat….Thanks to H & gang, Paddy & his team, Elmo, Dodge & Hottie with the headband for being great hosts and showing us a fab time in Baghdad!
Ah…back to Luxury of 5 star…Hey where is my sleeping bag and body armour!!...I feel naked!!
Our day off played host to the most contradicting events of the previous week, a trip to the spa, complete with massage pool, sauna & steam room, an amazing dinner at the Crown Plaza's Tepenyaki restaurant and a bed complete with duvet & pillows!
Arriving at Camp Behuring POC Gemma took us to see the mechanics & engineers where we were once again let loose with some Army property. A giant 8 wheel drive transport vehicle was the target this time and Casey, I must add was a fantastic driver. The poor fella who owned it almost had a heart attack but as always the girls were loving the thrill of danger!!!
With the stage set to Rock & Roll and a crowd mixed with British & American troops the show was unforgettable! I especially take my hat off to Terry Alderton for having the nuts to completely take the mick out of the Americans even though the crowd consisted of about 600 of them all still armed with rifles!!!!!...You are a true fellow nutcase!
The crowd was wild with excitement and going crazy, so seizing the opportunity of a lifetime I finished the night off by launching my self into the crowd and surfing the tidal wave of army hands….. Unforgettable!
All in all it was an amazing tour. The guys & girls we met were all so fantastic & it truly is one of life's greatest achievements to help boost morale & be part of CSE history.
