Music is something Keavy Lynch and Edele Barrett are extremely passionate about. Back when boy bands and choreographed dancing were the craze, a little pop group name B*witched came storming out of Ireland and between 1990-2000 released two albums with 8 singles reaching the top 20 in the UK charts. Four of those singles topped the UK charts, making them the first Irish group to achieve this status. These albums went double platinum in the UK and platinum in the US. They’ve preformed songs for movies such as “The Princess Diaries” starring Anne Hathaway and “Bring It On” staring Kirsten Dunst. While on tour, they have had the opportunity to share the stage with acts like, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.
After a tearful September 2002 disbanding, the girls looked at what was next for each of them. By 2006, twin sisters Edele and Keavy regrouped and started working on a new band called Ms Lynch. This new group was not the same bubble-gum pop that we heard in the 90’s. Still focusing on the pop genre, they shed their little girl images and started showcasing a new, mature, and sexy side to their music. Gone was the cute “tweens” and in there place, they cranked up the volume and started touring with a full band. Hating to go on without former band mates, Sinead O’Carroll or Lindsay Armaou, they made the decision to follow their hearts and continue their dreams in music.
In addition to being artist themselves, they have also written for acts such as Girls Aloud and Sugababes. Now you can hear them at shows performing classic B*witched material such as “C’est La Vie” along with new material like “Diet Coke” & “Winds of Time”. In April of 2008, Keavy and Edele signed with former Sony Records chairman Paul Burger at Sohoartists.
The girls took time to talk with Ambient Level Music about their years in the music business. They talk about the ups and downs of the past and current projects such as their new album set to debut next year. Keavy and Edele have experienced so much in such a short span of time and they have a lot to share with their fans and future artist in the music scene. Take heed boys and girls, for the “B*witching hour of Ms Lynch” is upon us.

HM - After touring through different countries, what are the biggest differences in the diverse fan bases you’ve encountered?
Keavy - All over the world the fans have been amazing, extremely supportive. Our fans back in the day were a very young age starting from 6 up. Now with our new music our fans have grown up with us so it tends to be 16 up!
Edele - It seemed in every different country the fans liked different members of the band than other countries. There was different levels in intensity also they were crazy for following us around in Singapore and in Italy to the point of even getting taxis to follow us all day long.
HM - What was it like going through the disbanding of B*witched and your feelings on forming another band with 2 out of the 4 original members?
Keavy - When we first disbanded it was devastating, we didn't see it coming and it was a big shock to have something that important taken away from you. We didn't form the new band together right away, before that we both went off on our own. I wrote a musical and Edele wrote her own album. But something was missing and we realized it was each other. It made perfect sense for us to start again together. As soon as we did we knew we were on the right road. Everything seemed to fall into place and run smooth!
Edele - It was a very tough time for all of us and we each dealt with it in different ways and at different times. I threw myself into writing and working in a studio so I put off dealing with it for a couple of years. When I eventually dealt with it I lost all my confidence for a long time and had to build it back up again. When I met my husband was when it all started to turn around for me. Life seemed to make more since and worth while when he came along.
HM - Do you still keep in touch with Sinéad O'Carroll and Lindsay Armaou on a regular basis (one day prompting a reunion if the stars lined up just right)?
Keavy - We do still keep in touch and the girls are doing great. Both married and Sinead just had a baby girl Samara!
Edele - We do keep in touch. Keavy sees Lindsay all the time they live near each other but we don't see Sinead as much, some people just grow apart which is sad.
HM - What are your thoughts about doing the old material at show today?
Keavy - We do sing some of our old songs along with new ones on stage. At first it felt strange because we do it so differently now but people like to hear a blast from the past too. It is what made us so we are happy to do it.
Edele - At first it felt strange but now I realize it's just like anyone else who came from a previous music back round, the audience knows your old material so it makes since to play it as well.
HM - Edele, what has it been like mixing your music career with your family?
Edele - It is tough; I miss them so much when I have to leave them. I wish I could take them everywhere.
HM - Keavy, how did you become a volunteer for the “Make A Wish Foundation”?
Keavy - When we were in the band we had a few children ask for us as their wish and to see how it made them feel was amazing. To know that you made a dream come true for someone is the best feeling. When I had a lot of time on my hands I decided that I wanted to give something back so I started volunteering. I love it!
HM - What are the main differences between B*witched and Ms Lynch? And what do the old and new fans have to look forward to from the grown up and more mature young ladies that you’ve grown into?
Keavy - The main difference is the song writing. We are older now and have experienced more to write about. Our writing and sound has matured. There is a big difference on stage too; we go out with a live band all the time. It is great to do everything live, that is what it is all about for us!
Edele - We have a different audience, Ms Lynch music is more grown up as we are and our fans. You can look forward to us making good music and still entertaining you from a different perspective.
HM - With success at such a young age, what were some of the things you wished you had known then that you know now?
Keavy - I wish I had been aware that it could end any day. As we were so young we were not that aware that it was your career that might end and how serious the business side was.
Edele - Maybe that it all would end one day, we could've been more prepared. When you're that young you don't think about those things.
HM - After signing with Sohoartists in 2008, in what direction do you want to take the new group, in the long term? And will we be seeing an album release from Ms Lynch?
Keavy - You will definitely seeing an album release from Ms Lynch next year. We knew our direction before we signed with Paul Burger; we went to Paul as we have a history with him from when he was chairman of Sony and we new he was a good choice. He is a very powerful man and it was time for us to invite someone in to help us take it all to the next level.
Edele - We signed to Soho artists to take us to the next level, finishing our record for release which should be next year.
HM - Being young women who have already spent so many years in the music business, if you had to walk away from it now, what’s the most important thing you take with you?
Keavy - The thought of walking away from it kills me, I really hope that never happens. Music is a big part of who I am not just what I do. But the most important thing would be the memories of making a dream come true!
Edele - That I have something better to walk away to and a dream lived.
