www.gotoquiz.com/what_american_accent_do_you_haveI'm particularly curious to see what non-Americans get. My result was The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.
Sometimes I think I do have a bit of an accent. And its not Minnesotan. And I DONT sound like Bobby Generics mother.

"Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak."
The summary is that I'm from North East USA. I'm actually from North West England.

"The West- Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta."
Haha. I AM from SoCal. Now that I've moved people here tell me they like my accent!

ok completly random thought (these seem to hapen alot when i study)! ok i was on top of the effile tower and a woman from northern ireland told me i had the cutiest accent. I was wondering how an european would describe an american accent. its like so complicated when i think about how to describe an irish or british accent

...and there are so many accents (American accents as well as English or Irish accents). I'm really interested in that stuff too. You probably aren't looking for an answer from another American, but lol... I will say that usually, it seems that people who don't speak English don't know the difference. I was asked if I was Canadian or American, and that was in all the popular tourist spots where they're pretty familiar with us... only a few people have ever told me they like my accent, and it's really funny to be told that you have "a very strong American accent".

so here in pittsburgh we have our own accent we call it "pittsburgheses". lol we actually have a wikipedia page. Here we dont have soda its pop (omg please dont call it soda we freak), we have gumbands not rubberbands, buggies not shoping carts, chipped ham instead of chopped ham, jag offs, slippy vs. slippery. We are famous for calling each other "yinz" "what are yinz doing?". And we are lazy so we combine our words such as "J'eat yet" instead of saying did you eat yet. lol i guess we americans do have accents
