When my son and I turn up, do you think people will think he's the Kelly Clarkson fan and I'm keeping him company? Many a true word spoken in jest. The tickets said show started at 7 pm. I doubted it would start that early but decided we should be there by then just in case. We arrived at 6.40 and got the next to last space in the car park. To my surprise, the theatre wasn't open yet. It's owned by a beer company - you'd think they would open it so people could go in and drink beer! The queue stretched round the corner for about a quarter of a mile. I looked at the people in the queue and only saw one person of about my age. I saw another two inside the theatre. Everyone I saw who was about my age had a son or daughter with them. The strange thing is, if you somehow managed to take a tape of Kelly's music back to the 1970s and played it to people it would not sound out of place, so why don't people of my age like her? She was only on stage for an hour and a quarter, but the quality of the performance made up for its brevity. Naturally, I was tempted by the merchandise stall. I bought a ridiculously over-priced programme: £8. There was a one-page message from Kelly to her fans and the rest was photographs. Nothing wrong with photographs of Kelly, but it was very expensive for what it is. And I succumbed to a tee shirt which I'll wear next time I go to the gym. Disappointments: the acoustics in the Manchester Apollo are awful; the show was too short; she did Little Miss Independent (awful song); she didn't do Beautiful Disaster. Despite these disappointments I wish I had tickets to see her again tonight.

Got tickets to see her in Liverpool in February. Bought them within five minutes of them going on sale and the decent seats had already gone.
