"R" and "U" are letters. "Are" and "You" are words. Letter make words, but letters, themselves are not words. With the obvious exception of the letters "I" or "A" which can be used as both because they are magical. I have mixed feeling about textspeak. If you're on actual phone (which Edele often is), I can get passed it. But if you're sitting down at a computer-sitting. down. at. a. computer-and you type, like, "gd" isn't of "good", you're just freaking lazy.
"gd" is "godd*mn". If you type "Hey. How are you? I'm gd", you're saying "Hey. How are you? I'm godd*mn." You're godd*mn what? (Or I'm going to imagine you saying that with your teeth closed.)

I've never been able to get on board with the text speak, i dont like it in messages and it's even worse when people use it in a conversation. Why do people feel the need to say lol or omg.

I always read "lol" in my head like "lohl" or "lowl". Like it's an actual word. And "omg" would be "O-mig-eh" or something. And "rofl" would be "roffel". "lmao" is "La-mah-o". My computer is putting red, squiggly lines under these because they are not actual words. If something is funny, just type "ha ha". I type words because I speak words. When I laugh in real life, I don't go "o-mig-eh lowl!". Or even "L.O.L!" I type in "laugh" because when something is funny, I laugh.

Hazel uses text speak, but only because she only uses Facebook Mobile. I tend to use it when I'm texting cause I hate sending 5 page texts. One of the girls from my old church, back in Ohio who was born in 1996...she 'types lyk diis' and it's annoying and funny at the same time. She's also kinda bad and 'fast' if you catch my drift.

I can't understand people when they text like that, I've had to ring my sister loads of time to ask her to explain what it is she's just written.

My dad (who is 70) thinks he's hip and street by trying to use text talk in his texts, but his method appears to be drop every vowel then go over it and see what else he can lose - I reckon he thinks he's charged per letter typed !! ;D I've seen more comprehensible Alphabet Spagetti than his texts !!!

In that situation, it's better to just talk on the phone in the first place. I don't text much. It's actually faster for me to just call you and tell you, or leave you a message, than to type it all out with my thumbs, whether I'm using short-hand textspeak or not.

The bum-humper appears to be back. I reported him/her/it. If this is a different one, still reported.

I don't get why people use it, full stop.
If you have a lot to say, say it in person, not a text message.
