Here is my theory: It was a candid shot taken of Edele staring off at something and the sun was getting in her eyes. As for looking upset, that's, um,...her face... Particularly, her mouth. They can look like they're almost frowning sometimes.

I love the mug. Now you can drink coffee with Keavy and Edele every morning!

She's still holding the candle with her middle finger sticking up.

Actually, she kind of does look like she'd been crying. A little. Maybe she was tired. Or she had to sneeze. Or she just made an odd face at an inopportune moment and the camera captured it for all eternity. Or she needed a hug. Or maybe it wasn't anything and I'm overanalyzing it. Who knows?

I wouldn't say that. Deep thought, her eyes would be gazing. In this, she looks like she's actually focused on something. Perhaps a strange-looking bug. And she saw this bug and thought, "My, what a strange-looking bug. Maybe I'll take it home and name it 'Bob'. And I will feed it toast." Because in my version of events, she totally does that.
